In my own words...

A degree in Political Science consists of a well-rounded, balanced, and critical analysis, assessment and study of political institutions, processes and systems. It prepared me with a working, intimate knowledge and understanding of a variety of political ideologies and beliefs. From community politics at neighborhood associations up to national and international relations on the world stage, I am prepared with essential knowledge and understanding to address and analyze most aspects of politics.

My concentration in Public Affairs specifically gives me a deeper understanding of how policy and political officials affect the general public. My focus on Community Engagement equips me with tools to communicate, and effectively connect, with a community; and use empathy, and adaptability, to approach communities of people at a level that encourages confidence and trust that other people might not be able to achieve.

My minor in Leadership prepares me for not only stepping into leadership roles, but also gives me the tools to analyze and apply a critical eye to existing leaders so that I can adequately advise them and address their concerns, while giving them an opportunity to use my specialized knowledge to better understand their impact on the public. The minor in Public Policy is special because it gives me a focused area of study and awareness. It amplifies and bolsters my concentrations in Public Affairs and Community Engagement by providing a frame of reference for communications and policy decisions.

All in all, my degree has given me a complex and complete view of the delicate inner workings of our democracy, as well as it's affect on the world, from the smallest local communities, to the national stage.
